Sani Pass Day Tour

A journey to the Kingdom in the Sky

Activity Description

Experience one of Southern Africa’s most iconic adventures on our full-day Sani Pass tour into the majestic Kingdom of Lesotho. Departing from Underberg at 09:00, you’ll journey in a luxury 4×4, climbing from 1,544 to 2,876 meters along a rugged mountain pass famed for its dramatic switchbacks and breathtaking views.

Along the way, we’ll pause at two border posts and several scenic viewpoints—perfect opportunities to capture the beauty of the Drakensberg. With our expert guides leading the way, you’ll not only enjoy the thrill of the ascent but also gain fascinating insights into the region’s wildlife, landscapes, and history.

In Lesotho, browse local curio shops before visiting a traditional Basotho homestead. Here, you’ll taste freshly baked bread straight from the open fire, hear captivating stories of Basotho heritage, and watch an authentic shepherd dance performance.
For lunch, choose between an authentic local restaurant or the famous Highest Pub in Africa, where hearty meals are paired with sweeping panoramic views.

After lunch, we begin the scenic descent of the Sani Pass, returning to Underberg at approximately 3:30 PM.

Transfers from Durban can be arranged on request.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE

The Highest Pub in Africa charges an entrance fee of R200 per adult and R100 per child under 12. This fee is not included in our tour price, as visits to the pub are subject to availability. Should your tour include a stop at the Highest Pub, the entrance fee will be payable on the day. This fee is however redeemable at the restaurant and bar and will be deducted from your bill.

Alternatively if the Highest Pub is fully booked we offer our guests the option of either having lunch at a lovely local Basotho restaurant, or feel free to bring along your own snacks and drinks for in the vehicle while on the tour! Of course should you prefer not to have lunch for religious or personal reasons that is absolutely fine too. Kindly select your preference when making your booking and we will make the necessary arrangements.

Customer Reviews

It was wonderful feeling like tourists in our own country. Njabulo was a great guide and competent driver. We learnt a lot. Glad I wasn't white-knuckling the steering wheel, foh sho Thoroughly enjoyed our day. Love SA even more. Thank you ? - Mary

This was an excellent tour full of adventure. Thanks very much - Ricardo

I had such an amazing experience with Lesotho On Track on the Sani Pass day trip! The company even called me beforehand to make sure everything was sorted, which made the whole process feel so easy and stress-free. Our driver, Martin, honestly made the day. He's funny, super kind, and knows so much about the area and the Basotho people. He kept the drive entertaining, answered every question, and even offered to take photos for everyone. You can tell he really cares about making the trip special. The drive itself was breathtaking those mountain views are something else! Crossing into Lesotho was smooth, and with Martin guiding us, we got to experience the culture in such a warm, genuine way. The whole trip was well-paced, fun, and never felt rushed. If you're thinking of doing Sani Pass, I'd definitely recommend Lesotho On Track and if you get Martin as your driver, you're in for the best day! - Kiera.C

Overall we really enjoyed our time on your tour. The only dissapointing part were some other guests almost "rushing us" or making comments that we were keeping them late when on the website it said pick up time from 9am-9;30am. Maybe make it more clear to guests about pick up time etc. We understand you cannot control guests. We loved our guide and the tour. - Bridgette

Our family trip to Sani Pass was nothing short of amazing. Thanks to Martin for his driving experience getting us up and down the mountain pass safely. The terrain isn't easy to navigate and does require experience which we were certainly taken care of in that aspect. Lesotho on track is a very great company to use if you want a great experience. Thank you - Algin
