Sani Pass Day Tour

A journey to the Kingdom in the Sky

Activity Description

Experience one of Southern Africa’s most iconic adventures on our full-day Sani Pass tour into the majestic Kingdom of Lesotho. Departing from Underberg at 09:00, you’ll journey in a luxury 4×4, climbing from 1,544 to 2,876 meters along a rugged mountain pass famed for its dramatic switchbacks and breathtaking views.

Along the way, we’ll pause at two border posts and several scenic viewpoints—perfect opportunities to capture the beauty of the Drakensberg. With our expert guides leading the way, you’ll not only enjoy the thrill of the ascent but also gain fascinating insights into the region’s wildlife, landscapes, and history.

In Lesotho, browse local curio shops before visiting a traditional Basotho homestead. Here, you’ll taste freshly baked bread straight from the open fire, hear captivating stories of Basotho heritage, and watch an authentic shepherd dance performance.
For lunch, choose between an authentic local restaurant or the famous Highest Pub in Africa, where hearty meals are paired with sweeping panoramic views.

After lunch, we begin the scenic descent of the Sani Pass, returning to Underberg at approximately 3:30 PM.

Transfers from Durban can be arranged on request.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE

Prior reservations are essential in order to have lunch at the Highest Pub in Africa. Unfortunately due to the lodges limited capacity entry is granted only to guests that will be eating with them, this also means that the lodge is unable to accommodate guests who wish solely to have a drink, use the WIFI, or restrooms.

Alternatively we offer our guests the option of either having lunch at a lovely local Basotho restaurant, or feel free to bring along your own snacks and drinks for in the vehicle while on the tour! Of course should you prefer not to have lunch for religious or personal reasons that is absolutely fine too. Kindly select your preference when making your booking and we will make the necessary arrangements.

If you choose to have lunch at The Highest Pub in Africa kindly note their lunch policy: If we have 10 or more guests on the tour in total, the Highest Pub in Africa require that ALL guests order from the set menu (adults – R220pp / kids U12 – R110 / Under 3 – no lunch charge). If we have less than 10 guests in total on the tour guests may order off the Ala carte menu (Price Range R100 – 250). Although we do our best to secure reservations in advance at the pub, availability cannot always be guaranteed.

The Highest Pub Set Menu Options: Chicken Curry, Beef Stroganoff, Veg Lasagna, Veg Stir-fry. All options come with a choice of starch and a selection of veg and salad.
