Embark on an exhilarating adventure to the majestic Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, perched high in the Southern Drakensberg Mountains—affectionately known as the “Kingdom in the Sky.”
Your Sani Pass Day Tour kicks off with a scenic departure from the quaint town of Underberg at 9:15 AM (Departure times may vary if you are being picked up from your hotel or guesthouse—in this case we will contact you directly to confirm your pick up time) Prepare for an unforgettable ride as we journey in luxury 4×4 vehicles through the rolling landscapes to ascend the legendary Sani Pass. Over approximately 2.5 hours, you will climb from 1,544 meters to a thrilling 2,876 meters. With stops at the two border posts: the South African Border Control at the base and the Lesotho Border Control at the summit – valid passports are of course essential.
The pass, known for its serpentine gravel road and steep inclines offers some of the most spectacular views as you wind your way through its hairpin bends, and offers many photo opportunities at the various view sites along the way. Once we reach the top, we’ll dive deeper into Lesotho’s heart for a truly immersive cultural experience. Be warmly welcomed into a Basotho home, where you’ll discover the rich history and vibrant traditions of the Basotho people. Enjoy freshly baked Basotho bread and hear captivating stories about the local culture and ways of life, after which you will get to relish a hearty lunch at the Highest Pub in Africa or an authentic Basotho restaurant, the choice is yours.
Throughout your journey, your guide will share fascinating tales about Lesotho’s history, its remarkable people, as well as its resilient fauna and flora, making the experience as enriching as it is thrilling.
As we descend the Sani Pass and return to Underberg around 3:30 PM, we have no doubt that you’ll be filled with unforgettable memories and a newfound appreciation for this extraordinary piece of Africa.

Lesotho On Track
- Tiffany
